Thread: New Tech Day - Early stages!

Default New Tech Day - Early stages!

    Okay then!

The last tech day I had went REALLY well and I met a lot of new people (all new, in fact..). Had a blast and finally got to see faces to match to the names. Everybody was knowledgeable (for the most part) and even though I got picked on quite a bit, I managed to have a lot of problems fixed on my car and get stuff DONE finally!

That one went well, and now I'll need 1 more day (for the time being). I finally have my new seats (thanks to a very gracious member) and I'm now ready to complete my second set of modifications.

Here's what I need this time:

    1. Dash pulled and stripped, then repainted

    2. New gauge faces installed (I have two sets, I'm going to try one of them out)

    3. Grease speedo cable (I know, I could do it myself, but I could install the gauge faces at the same time when the meter hood is off but I've never done those before so I'm waiting)

    4. Swap carpet out, from tan to black!

    5. Install new headrest speakers in the new seats

    6. Install new door speakers

    7. Install new door panels

    8. Install new seats

    9. If I have one by then, install new steering wheel

    10. Paint all tan plastic parts black

    11. Install new trim panels where the rollbar was installed (we left the tan ones out because I'm getting blakc ones from BR)

Now, we don't have to have as many people as last time (though that would be cool). The main people I need will be:

    1. Someone good at wiring speakers - audio equipment. I have almost no experience in this area and need serious help. I can plug in my new speakers but that's about it

    2. Someone good at pulling the dash without screwing up (Bean, I hear you're good at this ).

So I only need 2 specialists, the rest can be as dumb as rocks

I think that's all the current parts I have to do. I'm planning another big interior mod but I don't think it would be good for a tech day as it could take a while in the same area that the carpet needs to be done.

So anyway, I'm just getting the ball rolling on this one! Thanks guys, you're all awesome (no complimenting-so-you'll-come-help-me intended...)

I was informed that you were good at pulling dashes

So if you'd like to show up and be a part of the group instead of being such a loner, you're welcome

I'm hardly a loner... just extremely busy. Between work and school... ugh.

That's what I get for being inspired by altiain!

It's worth it in the long run, trust me.

I'm game for it again, but probably not until March or so.

If I'm available and you don't have the tech day in Eastern El Paso, I can assist with the dash, stereo.

You'll need a warm day for the paint to dry. You might want to pull all the tan plastic besides the dash and get that painted ahead of time.

What is tan on your car anyway?

Darnit, I was planning to have it at a buddies house in Socorro

The painting isn't a problem, I'm a whiz at getting that stuff done in a hurry (I'm happy with my taillights and all the prep/sanding/painting/buffing took a total of 4 hours ) so it won't be a big deal. I'll do all I can before we have the event though.

What's tan? Lets see... the little panels under the dash by your feet, the seats, and the carpet. I know I'm forgetting something but I'll look the car over tomorrow and figure it all out.

What I'll do is stick the black seats in before going to the event, then having you (since you're good at it and the door panels used to be yours) work on the wiring and junk in that area. I have a custom wiring harness for the headrest speakers from Titus that should be pretty simple, plus those Clearwater speakers. You already know how to wire the tweeters in since you had the panels before me. I'm going to blast them with black vinyl paint too, and probably use the later armrests (or door pulls, whatever).

Glad your coming aboard, I could use the extra help

    Edited for correctness.

I make no promises but if I can, I'll help out.

Bringing this back up since all my parts are in (except the little carpet buttons but I'm getting those at Vatozone).

My Tein springs came in yesterday (and they weren't counterfeit!). They look like they'll be muuuch softer than the bricks I'm riding on right now. So now all they need is to be installed...

Heck, we can do it on my driveway but it's a little cracked up and uneven. And there's not much space.

When we manage to get this one together, I'm buying pizza and cokes for everybody

I wish those Ebay coilovers had worked out, but they're just so stiff it's ridiculous. I've caught air a couple of times just from tiny humps in the road!

Let's try to get this one going on a day that there's not an event going on so we can get a lot done. I'm going to have a lot of stuff!!

I would love to have a tech day... Just I can't seem to let the parts sit around. If there is something I can do to my Miata I usually just jump right in and get it done.

I would be glad to lend a hand. Just firm up a date, time and place and I will see what I can do!

The first Saturday I would be available is 3/31 and the first Sunday would be 4/8. That would be either to attend or host the event.

Well you're the smartest in the group (which isn't saying much, sorry ) so you have to be there either way. You're someone I actually trust with my car... and this time I'm going to hang around for the afterparty.

The rest of you guys are expendable
