How far back for no emissions check at inspection?

How far back for no emissions check at inspection?
20 or 25 years? Is that when you get classic plates.

I'm not thinking anything special, just wondering.

Which vehicles are required to have the emissions test?

1. Vehicles registered in designated county. Designated counties include:

Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Montgomery, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis, Williamson and El Paso counties.

2. Gasoline powered vehicles. Diesel powered vehicles and motorcycles are exempt from the emissions standards, but are still required to have the annual safety inspection.

3. Vehicles between 2 - 24 years old OR upon expiration of the 2 year initial inspection sticker

BTW. When you get Antique Plates you also no longer have to get a safety inspection, and the Antique plates are valid for 5 years!

Its nice of 3 vehicles we own only one has to be emmisions tested. Only 12 more years to go on it.

No real mileage limitation on Antique Plates although I drove the 'lac less than 300 Miles last year.

The restrictions are as follows : Antique license plates are issued for cars, trucks or motorcycles that are at least 25 years old and are a collector’s item. The vehicle must be used exclusively for exhibitions, club activities, parades or other functions of public interest. Vehicles displaying Antique plates may not be used for regular transportation or carry advertising; however, the vehicle may be driven to and from a location for routine maintenance.

I keep a set of plugs and some other maintenance items in the trunk just in case I happen to be taking it home to do maintenance!

I cheated and kept my Arizona plates and never registered here in Texas. My license is good for 30 years in AZ and I never have to register Truck unless sold. Now, did I also mention it has been sitting in my garage for the past 5 years being restored? It is a '61 Chevy Stepside Pickup w/ last year of wrap around windshield. 80% finished sans electrical and drive train. Also, did I mention IT IS FOR SALE.
