Agreed.
I contend that US production houses should be making these shows like they do in the rest of the world - a limited run of 2 to 4 years with a definite conclusion. In other words, they wouldn't be tempted to string out some bullshit story as long as they can while they juggle around ridiculous story ideas. Right now they'll write whatever they can to get to the next season.
I've never watched the show. From what I've heard from those who have, it seems the writers are literally making it up as they go and have no clear direction. Can you say 'Twin Peaks'?

The frustration is just beginning.
Personally I still love it. The writers have said they are not in Pergatory (or dead?) and that they do have the whole story complete. They are not flying by the seat of their pants as some might think.

I know of a few shows where the producers and writer were doing their best and it was still crap

IIRC, the producers say that they're not in hell, and that everything can be explained easily.
I watch Lost, but it's getting lame with the no freaking conclusion or end in sight.
