wishing I had my Miata out here...
I made another road trip... this time out to LA with a buddy who's moving out to help head up our company's LA office (so it's a "working vacation" for me!). Unfortunately, we had to take his Lexus ES330 (Camry). Sure, it's got its upside - it sure is quiet and comfy, and I don't think we could've pulled off a 16 hour day in the Miata - but, dang, I gotta come back here to visit in my own car!
Saturday we cruised up the PCH to Malibu, then took Mulholland back over to Hollywood, just to get the lay of the land. Well, on that short loop alone, we passed a few notable cars:
1) a 1970-ish Ferrari Daytona coupe
2) an Aston Martin DB5 (the original James Bond machine)
3) a right-hand-drive JDM Datsun 240Z (Fairlady Z??)
4) a REALLY nice '63 split-window Vette
5) possibly the cleanest '65 Caddy Convertible I've ever seen
6) a ratty, yet somehow impossibly cool, last-of-the-breed V12 E-Type Jag
7) of course, a TON of Miatae
...and of course a gaggle of other more pedestrian sleds - Bentleys, Porsches, and a slew of Ferrari 360/430s.
Anyhow, I'm still at my buddy's place in Marina Del Rey (sunny and 79 right now!), but I'm looking forward to getting back to the Miata... and my dog... I hear they both miss me.
Here's a few pics... (all I brought was my cell phone - oh well)
And, uh, note the price of gas in Needles, CA... it's quite the hell hole. Also, that's Dodger stadium, Venice beach, a one-legged bird, and a Toyota with an "alternate" source of power.
