I'm doing the following this weekend..... Questions ...

List of to dos...
1. Install Koni Yellows on the Rear of car
2. Doing the 94+ brake upgrade.
3. Install Russel Steel lines
4. Install Hawk Blues in the Front
5. Install Hawk HPS in the Rear
6. Bleed

Questions:

1. Do you Flip flop both the front and the rear brackets or just the fronts?
2. Any issues with the Russell lines?
3. How much beer am I going to need?
4. Any special fun or excitement related to getting the brake lines on or off?
5. Any other Gotchas I need to know about?

This is in preparation for the upcomming Drivers Edge Event at MSR. Anyone going to be there??

Flare Nut Wrenches are a good ideal for taking the brake lines loose; helps minimize rounding of the fittings.

I almost had to call off the weekend's fun and excitement when Mazda Heaven did NOT have any 94+ calipers/rotors. Thankfully, I found them at another yard.

I am not sure why anyone goes to Mazda for Parts. There is a wealth of good parts available from the yards. One thing I noticed.

The 90-93 miatas tended to get the noses crushed in and the 94+ tended to have side and rear damage. Hmmm, could the larger brakes be causing this? :lol:

By watching them take off the calipers and rotors, I got a pretty good idea of how to do it.

They had a neat trick for getting the rotors off. Rather than smack them with a hammer (Method A) the guy too a bolt and drove it into one of the pre-drilled holes. This pushed the rotors off the hub without damaging them. Much better method. Nice to see the yard techs caring about the quality of the part.

Yea that is cool Mazda even threads the hole on the rotor! 8)

wheel bearings? you will need to check those, a track event wears those out in a hurry.

as for the brake lines, get some old brake fluid and liberally put it on the connections the night before, they are a pain to get off. this help it not be as much of a pain.

Thank Rory for the tip of the real calipers. Unfortunately,I retracted the calipers all the way back and now the parking brake does work. I will resolve that problem shortly, I think all I need to do is adjust the calipers a little? I hope.

when you get the pads in you have to adjust the scrw back to the level when the pads JUUUUUST " barely touch" the rotor and then put that bolt back on then pull the brake should be tighter tahn a snare drum.
