What movie scared you as a child?

I stumbled upon the movie Gargoyles on the IMDB. I remember how frightened I was of it. Especially the scene where the couple was driving in the station wagon, you hear the pants of the gargoyle as it catches up with it, and then they are attacked.

Another one that got me was The World Beyond, which was a TV show. In this one, there were some people on an island being attacked by a mud monster. At one point, the monster lost its hand when they closed the door on it and the hand started moving on its own. I think it grabbed a chic's ankle on the stairs. That damn hand scared me good. I wish I could see this again.

The last one is Prophecy. Boy, did this one give me the shivers.

What movie scared you?

The Day the Earth Stood Still

I grew up watching the Nightmare on Elm Street movies with my cousins as a kid. The dream stuff always freaked me out. The original Halloween also got me some too. BUT, when I finally saw John Carpenter's remake of The Thing a few of years back, there were a couple of scenes that really made my jump out of skin!

The Car! :scared:

The Name Of The Rose... something about a bunch of priests alone, on a hill, by themselves...

The Exorcist. Funny stuff looking back at it now, but at the time.... :scared:

Saw it at a friends house in his basement and had to walk home in the wee hours alone.

Meh...

Ghostbusters. I remember hiding behind the couch during the scene where the gargoyle turns to life and chases people around Manhattan.

I remember watching lots of movies at the drive-in theater as a kid... at a dollar per carload it was a fun night out for us. (Single mom & 2 kids)

I think it only cost us a quarter to go to the movies back then..::OldMan::

Poltergeist and Jaws. The clown in poltergeist really freaked me out. I was never into the hard core horror flicks.

Ghostbusters was a favorite of mine. It's still my most watched in a theater film. I saw it like 8 times.

"It" based off the stephen king book. that freaking clown was scary. *shudders*

and The Shining, even though the book was way better
The original Friday the 13th

Horror movies are my favorite, I have seen a ton of them and it takes something really gory or sick to phase me now.....but ghost stories always are the best, or possesion.

p.s. Here's a suggestion for the holidays "Black Christmas" sick, twisted, and flat out gross.

From when I was really young, Pinocchio. I actually recall having nightmares about it for years. After that was Poltergeist. I still count when I see lighting.

Depending on the definition of being scared, I didn't think Jaws was that scary till I went to Padre that same summer...and couldn't bring myself to get into the surf.

In terms of pure horror, the original "The Thing" was some scary stuff in 1982.

Poltergeist... especially the scene with the clown. :(
