Flywheel or seat time?

I would like to ask for the help of the more experienced autocrossers on this one....

I am on a limited budget as most of you probably are.. and I am faced with chossing between a lighter flywheel and additional seat time. I am already planning to join the SCCA and preregister for their events this year. I am also planning the 1.8 swap into my 1990. I am definitely going to replace the clutch but thought about changing to a light weight fly wheel.


The big question is should I go for the light weight flywheel, or additional events such as ER, S2000, BMW, or the Porshe Club?

Then once you can go as fast as jrj512 in his 1.6 then you can upgrade. ;)

"If you can't drive it stock, then you cant handle it modified".
I did as he said, I raced one season bone stock.
I got as much instruction as I could and listened to them.
I didn't have the coolest looking car but, I usually was fast in my class.

You can always learn somthing from a faster wheel.
In CenLa, the usual FTD looked like he was doing 20mph he was so smooth.

Seat time +2! However, SCCA is not the most seat time per $. Their runs are usually under a minute. They only have 4 runs (you may get less if too many cars). Better bang for your $ should be the S2K and BMW.

The top 3 things you can do to improve your driving are seat time, seat time, and more seat time.

Seat time! Go to all the event you can.

If you have the time and money, make all the schools in the area that you can.

PCA has 3 schools (4 if you count the Ladies/Teens school); SCCA will have their school in March; and of course, ER is hosting a 3-day Evolution School in March.

Seat time will make you a better driver, however you can lighten the stock flywheel for very little money. If you are having (you should) your flywheel resurfaced, they can turn it around and shave off some metal.

I have mine done and like the results. They only took off material on the outside edge.

Also, Does the class that you want to run in allow lighter flywheels?

I think a lighter flywheel is ok in CSP.
