Yes, but I believe that has always been the case. As I understand it, the wording of the warranty has always stated "Craftsman hand tools are guaranteed forever. If any Craftsman hand tool ever fails to give complete satisfaction, return it to Sears for free repair or replacement. This warranty gives you specific rights and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state. Other Craftsman tools are covered by limited warranties.". What does seem to change from time to time is Craftsman's interpretation of what they consider a hand tool.
I just exchanged a 1/2" ratchet that was about 40 years old. It finally became less than dependable in one direction. I hoped they could rebuild it, but they don't make the rebuild kit anymore.
It was a good tool. I never saw the need for a 3/8" ratchet while I had it.
When is onething's next birthday? I'll buy him a 3/8" ratchet.
