We had a discussion about that on s2ki. It's actually pretty involved to enter the event. In addition to a $500 clunker you still probably need to spend 1K on wheels/tires/brakes/cage to qualify for safety as well as a fireproof suit, SA rated helmet and 500+ in entry fees. You'd probably realistically be looking at 2000-3000 bare minimum to enter plus travel expenses. Sure looks like fun though.
