It'll be interesting to see how long the solid state disks last with repeated writing to them. They are only rated for a certain # of writes. Swap file usage would be the biggest killer.Quote:

I keep looking at them too, but honestly you can score a couple of cheap traditional laptops for near that kind of money, and I know I'd go blind trying to use a 7" screen...

I think there should be a 9" coming out later this year. I'm waiting for that one as the 7" is not really useable. Also if you do buy one keep in mind there are several variations. Some you need to open up to upgrade the RAM some you don't.
I went ahead and ordered a 2G Surf in pink for the wife for Valentines day. $285 shipped (after coupon) from Buy.com. If I like it, I'll order a black 8G for myself.

Very cool, I've been looking around in a store to try a demo but I couldn't find anyone that actually carries them. Does anyone know what the final word on upgrading RAM is? I know the 8GB should have the access door for a quick upgrade but does the 4gb/4gb SURF have it as well? If you start with the $500 8gb, spend 50-100 more for more RAM, 50 for 8gb SD card, buy a thin DVD drive it could quickly get to be a $700-800 laptop which doesn't make sense to me.
If it is worth the $$ or not depends on how you use it. If you want it as your only computer, then the upgrades are likely worth it. If it is for occasional use, you don't need to upgrade anything. Use it as is.Quote:
