Charging NiMH RC car batteries

OK... so I made it over to Mike's Hobby Shop (cool place!) and picked up a couple of fresh batteries for the Bruiser, but they're NiMH instead of the trusty ol' Ni-Cads. I get home and notice that the label on the battery says I must use a NiMH charger. What, praytell, is the difference? And what's the going rate for one of these?

BTW, I called back up to Mike's and one of the guys told me I could use my old charger, but to constantly monitor the battery and make sure it doesn't get too hot - sounds to me like a good way to start a house fire... :rolleyes:

Sorry, I don't know the difference between the chargers.

Anyone else know what's different about the charging process of NiMH batts vs NiCd batts?:(

Its the current supplied during charging and the sensing for overcharging. Don't know specifics though.

Ah, ok.

My old charger is a "dumb" charger with (I assume) no form of feedback to prevent overcharging. I guess I'll have to pony up for a new one... unless somebody has a used one they're looking to get rid of! :D
