My friend was speaking to the seller about the car, but it turns out that while the engine was "replaced," the seller has absolutely no documentation and can't offer as much as a mileage on it.
There are some other questions he had too, but the guy seems to have stopped responding after the request for paperwork or even basic info on it.
Just wanting to make sure its not some kind of shady deal.
The guys sounds a little shady to me... If you can get the VIN, I'll run a Car Fax on it for you. Just PM me with the VIN and an email address where I can send it.
You still pulling carfaxs? Had I known that I would have hit you up on a Miata my sister was looking at a month or two ago.
She went ahead and bought it anyway.:D

Don't pay more than $2000 for that car. He had it listed for $4500 originally. I wouldn't pay $3900, or even $2500.
That car was for sale on craigstlist just a few weeks ago for $1000 obo! I was second in line to buy it. I could have picked it up same day, but the seller said the sale was pending. It took the buyer 2 frikkin' days to get the car. I was pissed that I didn't go get it in person with cash on the same day.
It appears that the "new owner" swapped the engine. The car needs body work, as you can see, but it does have some nice parts on it. Take the positive with the negative; it is what it is.
Definitely have Rick carfax it for you.

He lists it as Richardosn, but I recognise the parking lot. It's the Tom Thumb by my house at Alma and Hedgecox. That would make it Plano or damn near Allen.
