Not much info except that it's supposed to happen.

I think it will at least be a hybrid power plant. The internal combustion engine is eventually going to be replaced.
He probably means that it will have a spherical shift knob, spherical ends on the turn signal and wiper levers, spherical knobs on the radio, etc.
A Turbo 2.3L done right (with full forged internals and no boost limiter in the ECU,) would be nice. Put a T56 behind it, (or any transmission with the 4th as 1:1 and 5th and 6th as overdrive ratios,) feeding the right rear, and that would be a quick car with the potential for great highway mileage. Tires might not last very long, though.
::Whisp::You can buy a Mazda hybrid today.
Yes Iain, I know that. I was saying it would at least be a hybrid as the hybrid is a step away from the I.C.E. in that it also relies on alternative power in addition to fossil fuels.
Assuming Obama gets the nod I think we will see an increase in federal MPG standards and auto manufactures will use hybrids initially to achieve those requirements.
Eventually (within 10 years) I think we will see a major migration to something completely different than what we are used to now.
Please God, no... http://smiliesftw.com/x/eek3run.gif
I agree.
Oh yeah, I forgot that the Tribute is just a rebadged Escape, and hence gets all the same powertrain options.
One of my Aunts works a rural mail route and she is considering one to replace her current Escape. The Ford Escape, not the Tribute. The Mazda dealer network is a little slim in the rural South Bend area.
i cant wait to see this new makeover of mazda miata.. expect this to be as another best selling hits in the automotive industry..
In a recent trip to NYC, it looked to me like most of the Taxis were Escape hybrids.

I was disappointed that I did not see any Checkers.

The one taxi that we rode in was an Altima.
IIRC, NYC Taxi laws call for a Taxi to be replaced after 5 years of service, and all new fleet additions must get 30mpg. The Escape Hybrid appears to be the only car out there that has space for a lot of luggage and gets 30mpg, so it is becoming the new standard for NYC Taxi.
