So let us hypothetically say someone wanted to convert a 2002 Miata from a 6-Speed to a 5-Speed. What would you need to get? I know the rear end needs to be changed as well as the transmission itself. But are there any other items that you need to change??
I am of course wanting to stay within the SCCA rules for a Stock class car. ;)

You might want to give Tom McGrath a call... I hear he has experience with that particular swap.
You don't have to change the diff, unless you wanted a shorter final drive ratio.
If you do decide to sell the diff or swap it, please let me know.
Trackdog Gary has swapped a 5 speed in place of 6 speed on a local customers car, but kept the 3.9 torsen for a great track setup. Auto-x would be a different story and you might benefit from a 4.10 or 4.30 setup with the 5 speed.
If you swap the trans, supposedly you need the metal gasket/template that goes between the trans and the engine, but I don't know for sure.
6 speed on left, 5 speed on right.
I have a 4.10 gear set for sale really cheap if you want it. You will also need the speed-o sensor I believe. Not 100% though

Why not just pull the extra gear out of the existing tranny? ;)
Just do like Ken O and sell it and buy another, less hassle.
I have a 5-speed tranny for sale, but you have to buy all the rest of the parts attached to it. ;)
My friend bmcreider wants a six speed and currently has a five...
You'll need a different diff along with a different transmission. The '99-'05 5-speed cars all had a 4.30 rear end, but the 6-speed cars had a 3.90, iirc.Quote:

What about brake rotor sizes. I think the 6 speed front rotors are bigger also.
I don't think ABS was available on a 5 speed car.
