A question I have always wanted to ask. Any answers?
Some cars, yes... Miatas, not really. The Miata chip is soldered into the ECU, making a quick change difficult. There are a few companies that you can send your ECU to far a chip tweak, but I have yet to hear of anyone finding it worth it. There is a guy that will change a resistor on the board to raise the rev limiter, which might be useful to prevent having to shift into third to get to the next cone.
I am a Techtom dealer (they make all the rom-boards for tuning non-chipable ecus). Anyone have a spare M1 ecu? I'd like to take a look inside, we might be lucky and not need a daughterboard for it. If that is the case (and Techtom can share some hex addresses with me) then raising rev limits, playing with timing curve, etc is relatively easy.

ill possibly trade you $$ for an ecu?
Anyone have a pic of the inside of a pre-OBD2 Miata ECU?

Give me until later tomorrow and I can have a pic of mine... I think I can crack it open still.
