The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Luzerne County raided Crawford's home last month after getting a tip from PETA that she was marketing the pierced kittens on the Internet. SPCA Officer Carol Morrison said the kittens had 14-gauge piercings through their ears and submission rings at the napes of their necks. One kitten's tail was docked.
Morrison charged Crawford on Tuesday with three misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty, three summary counts of cruelty, and three counts of conspiracy. Crawford plans to plead innocent.

I'm guessing these folks have never been down to the farm on castrating day, when the bulls magically become steers.

Animal Cruelty laws are good, but I wouldn't say piercing an animal is such.

As long as they are not doing anything to their animal that they wouldn't do to themselves, I can live with it.

Yeah, that's real low on the cruelty line. I have seen cats with worse fighting one another. This is another example of "We have bigger problems to deal with in this country".

Stupid people trying to make a buck. Even though it may be low on the scale it's still wrong.

Smart people trying to make a buck. Cropped ears and tails are nothing new in the pet industry, this was just a different, if not warped, angle on the current practice.

Agreed... In the grand scheme, when we've got people fighting dogs (see Mike Vick) and burning puppies, I don't think piercing a cat's ears warrants much concern. There are lots of other sick fucks they could've gone after.

I mean, c'mon, dog people dock tails and crop ears every day and nobody makes a peep. Hell, AKC standards call for it in some breeds, right?

At least they found a way to make a cat interesting... ::StirTheP
