My Corrado Rotors Upgrade thread

This thread was a WTB: 1.8 brake brackets. I ended up purchasing these from a guy on the pointy board for $100 shipped.

I upgraded to Corrado rotors while I was at it. Scroll down for pics and info.

The brackets cost ~$100 shipped and the rotors were ~$50-$60 (for both) IIRC.

do the caliper brackets from 1.8 cars bolt to 1.6 cars?

and does this allow using a bigger rotor?

and do you use 1.6 calipers or 1.8 calipers (if they are different)

saw this thread and wondered if this is a cheap way to get better brakes on my track car

The 1.6 and 1.8 calipers are almost the same... You can bolt the 1.8 caliper brackets on to a 1.6 car, and then take the 1.6 calipers and swap sides (1.6 drivers side front caliper attached to passenger side front 1.8 caliper bracket on passenger side front corner of car, etc.). You can then use the 1.8 rotor and pad. I had it this way for a while on my car, but since I had gotten the 1.8 calipers with my brackets, I ended up rebuilding them and putting them on on.

I have also heard of some 1.8 STS2 cars that have swapped the other way, installing the 1.6 brakes, as they way less.

I also have another set of 1.8s available, but I will be selling the calipers and brackets together.

so how much larger diameter and/or swept area is the 1.8 rotor?

enough to make a real difference?

I looked on miata.net and saw a how-to and pic of the rotors, but hard to see how much difference

didn't mean to hijack the thread but got my attention since my caliper boots are gone and need service anyway

1.6 Front Rotor: 234.7 mm
1.8 Front Rotor: 255 mm
1.8 Sport Front Rotor 275.5 mm

1.6 Rear Rotor: 231 mm
1.8 Rear Rotor: 250 mm
1.8 Sport Rear Rotor 269.5 mm

can you use the Sport rotor on the 1.6 car with 15" wheels?

it seems significantly bigger

anyone know if the Sport rotors available at "normal" places like OReilly?

or only from Mazda?

I believe there are a some 15" wheels that fit over the sport brakes, but not all do.

Carquest carries sport rotors, or rockauto carries centric brand rotors for sport brake equipped cars.

Wutna?! I didn't follow your parenthesis...all I did was take the 1.8 brackets and rotors and switch them out. So maybe you use the passenger side 1.8 bracket on the driver's side wheel? I don't remember, so long ago I did the swap.

I ended up getting these from a guy on the point board for $100 shipped.

So I now have on Corrado rotors (11.2") in the front with 1.8 XP8's (they squeal on the street) and 1.8 rotors on the rear w/ Mazda pads (I need a more aggressive pad in the rear).

The OEM 5spoke 15" will clear the sport brakes.

Mods, please move to "Miata Tech" and rename thread to "My Corrado Rotors Upgrade thread".
