I'm wanting to put together a little emergency tool kit so that I won't be TOTALLY stranded if something decides to 'crap out' on me on the road.
What would be in your kit?
metric wrenches - rachetting.
various metric deep sockets w/driver (standard sizes for Miata)
adjustable wrench
needle nose pliers.
bailing wire, duct tape, electrical tape
Craftsman used to sell a truck tool box that fits neatly in the resess in the trunk bottom. Ask to see the one in Motorollow's car if he is there tonight. EDIT: Apparently they still do - Linkie
Do I need full sets of ratchets and sockets? or are some sizes not used very much on the cars.
What kind of car will I be looking for?
'94 black and tan, Helium wheels with Toyo T1R tires. Lowered.
10, 12, 14 and 17 mm are the most commonly used if I remember correctly.
On trips I carry a cheap ratchet set I bought at Lowe's (it's overkill since it has english and metric sockets), along with a leather pouch for various pliers, screwdrivers, and a cheap multimeter.
Socket kit
gear wrench metric 8,10,12,14 and 17
19 and 21 box end
ratcheting screw driver kit
Vice-grips
needlenose pliars
Kline cutter/crimpers w/a few butt conectors and a roll of 3m elec tape
JB weld
metric allen set
I carry alot more with me when I travel.
+1 on the cheap ratchet set and misc screwdrivers.
You absolutely need a roll of duct tape for emergency hose repairs and a pair of panty hose for emergency belt replacements.
Another plus is a decent set of jumper cables, not the cheap-o shit ones though. They just make bad contact and do nothing but frustrate you.

Klein tools...I think that's what Rogue was referring to.
Yep good stuff!

A pint of your favorite 80 proof in case none of the other tools work.
no, no those used to be called 'dream dates', (before my daughter turned 18 ) this is what you're thinking about.
