Local hero - Rogue at Miata Solutions should be able to help you with both!
Welcome to MME!
That's what Sammm told him on the pointy board.
I can't get ahold of him, I need a new top installed
and new rain rails
got a hold of him really nice guy told me he only installs Robbins top.
I can tell he takes pride in his work, I do as well so he got my business
A Robbins top is an excellent choice... :D
You might also hunt around for a used OEM NB top that fits your specs.
What will last longer? And most durable for having used it about 400 times a year
Good question...
My Robbins canvas top looks pretty damn stout - like it will last 10+ years. I got it used, and I've had it about a year and half with almost no wear. I park outside in the elements and haven't really investigated protective products. I did fix some self-induced trim stitching issues with Fabric-Tac for $10, with excellent results but, other than that, the top still looks as good as new. A good canvas OEM top should be as durable, but the Robbins top just looks better built. Of course, that don't come cheap unless you luck into one like I did... :D
Vinyl tops require some special care and handling. From what I've seen, they tend to wear more and can rip/break under stress in cold weather. On the upside, if someone or something pokes a hole in your canvas top, it can be patched fairly easily with silicone. It's probably a tossup between Robbins and OEM as long as they're both canvas.
One other nugget of info... if you plan to install a real roll bar (not a style bar), a Robbins top with a glass window limits your choices. I've got a Hard Dog M2 Sport bar (made for the '99-05 NB) and it barely clears - but it clears with no problem.
please vote on which top I should get the canvas are alot more expensive and seem to wear out faster
please remove the third option I really need a top
The ::Swiss:: option gives those who really don't care a chance to participate in your most important life decisions.
so yall think canvas will last longer?
I am sick of using tan duck tape
what part number do I need from http://www.miatamania.com for top cables (I guess thats the thing I need) that I replace with the top
I have a 99 miata
My top is missing said top cables. The only inconvenience is that you need to reach back and squeeze the rear bow forward when you put the top down. They're not necessary.
And, yes, I do believe a canvas top will outlast a vinyl top.
Save your money on the cables and throw it in the supercharger kitty... ;)
this really is a toss up for me I just really dont want leaks and I will be putting it up-down 2-3 times a day so which top is best for extreme use
From my experience, the canvas top will hold up better - especially with a glass window. My (non OEM) vinyl top fell apart in short order. It looked almost new when I bought the car in October '06, but it was shredded in a year - I still have the nearly-3-yr-old used replacement top...
I'm just sayin'...
