What does this screw do?

I found a lonely screw today
And wondered what it was,
Perched atop my Throttle Body
I know not what it does.

Google Search fell on its butt
No matter how I tried,
No diagrams, I'm in a rut
I am stumped; my brain is fried.

The screw, recessed, turns to and fro
With some ease and felicity,
I ponder should I tighten it so
Or will that come back to bite me?

Idle adjustment.

You have to jump TEN-GND before you attempt to adjust the idle. Check Miata.net for details.

Ah-ha! Thank you, sir. So essentially turning it does nothing until those two are connected?

I suspected it adjusted something, I just couldn't think of what.

Actually, turning it *does* do something, you just can't tell what until you jump GND and 10 to keep the ECU from correcting for your twiddles. If you've already twiddled, best to insert a jumper and undo your handiwork.

I figured as much as I was reading up on it. Luckily, I didn't turn it very far, it was only about 75 rpm low when I jumpered them.

I also discovered that the diagram for my DC box is missing... I had to look up which ones were 10 and ground.

Yay, now I get to add another item to the list of Things I Know How To Do On a Miata... someday I'll actually be able to repair something! :razz:

I found out that this will make your engine rev incessantly by itself at stoplights making you think you have a much bigger problem.

Jumping TEN and GND and resetting easily fixes this problem.
