What did you say??

I first saw this on BBC America last night and now CNN and Fox News has picked it up.

BBC said that driving your convertible between 50-70 mph can damage your hearing. So, when your driving with the top down and get up to 49 mph, just punch the gas so you can get above 70 mph as quickly as possible!!!! :)

I can definitely vouch for hearing loss from convertible driving. No joke. I carry earplugs in the car now and if I'm going to be driving top-down for more than a couple of miles, I pop 'em in. It's way better than not being able to hear my future grandkids talk to me.

Having ridden motorcycles for years (without windscreens), I can concur. This is one of those "They needed a study to prove this?" studies. I often wear earplugs while riding, and I *always* wear my Shoei RF1000 helmet, which is one of the LEAST noisy helmets out there. Even with a windscreen in a convertible, there's still a lot of noise, especially as you pass other vehicles on the road, especially 18-wheelers.

Just get earbud headphones and plug in yer iPlod or whatever. I love my Sennheisers!

I love my Shure E3c earbuds. They work extremely well at blocking outside noise without having to crank the noise on the ipod up.

Isolating earphones like those ^^^^ are awesome, especially for roadtrips. I love my Etymotic Research ER-6's. Blocks a ton of road & wind noise, plus you can enjoy your music at sane levels. Makes long trips at ~4000 rpm much less tiring.

Yeah it's nice to have those in and not have to have the music turned up loud enough to cause hearing damage also. I've worn earphones that you have to have turned up way too loud. So you get hearing damage from the music AND from the wind noise lol.

There's your proof right there. :-) If you have to turn up your radio near max to hear it with the top down, turn it up that loud sitting in the garage with the car off. *That's* what you're doing to your ears plus all the white noise (wind) you're trying to drown out.
