I just bought a 2001 Miata LS and whenever I turn the car to the right (Yes, only right) it makes an odd noise that I can't quite describe. Does anyone have any idea on what it is, or should I take it to a service shop?

Front or rear of car? Rumbling noise or clicking/ticking noise? Maybe someone in your neck of the woods will chime in... Many of our members will be more than happy todrive the piss out of someone else's carride along to listen to funny noises. We seem to thrive on diagnosing and DIY repairs...
I would need a few more details, however, my first guess is that one of the wheel bearings is going bad or is bad. When your car turns right, you load the left rear wheel. My first guess without a few more details.
Don't know where you are but we can look at it at track dog.
Give me a call, maybe I can swing by and take a listen.
I pass thru Coppell every week.

You know I've been having maybe the same thing on my 94...like a roowr roowr roowr roowr roowr noise from the front passenger when I turn left in parking lots. Its pretty quiet. So I didn't think it was too much of a big deal. Its done it for awhile now, maybe a year or more.
If it comes from the rear, I would guess CV joint, but I'm no expert.
Opinions are like assholes everyone has one.
Although wild-ass guessing on someone poorly described car noise over the inter web is fun! ::Banana::
Get Stevan to look at when he is in your neck of the woods. He took a ride in my car and pinpointed the rear bearing issue my '94 was having in under 17 seconds. ;)
