And I absolutly loath flying through La Guardia.
HAHAHAHA!!!!
I hate flying through Orange County on my way to San Jose. I've done that 3 times and twice they lost my luggage. The only reason they didn't lose it the 3rd time is that I was standby on the direct flight. I didn't make it on the flight, but my luggage did.
No I am no that lucky unfortunately. Flew back from NYC yesterday through La Guardia. Took 45 minutes to go through the Self Service Baggage check line. We set in a line on the tarmac for an hour before we took off. The Plane left the gate at 5:30pm Eastern and arrived in Dallas @ 8:45pm Centeral. The flight was only 3 hrs 15 minutes. You do the math. The MD-80 Toothpaste container we we flying in was completely packed. Thank you American for determining the smallest possible space you can squeeze the average human into and setting your seats so that its slightly smaller than that. And we get one beverage and had to pay for snacks if we want them. What a load of crap. I am almost to the point of refusing to fly for work if i can drive it. At least I will be comfortable.
Flying on a commercial flight makes the seats in a Miata seem quite spacious.
Flying on a commercial flight makes sitting in a tic-tac container seem quite spacious.
What blows these days is no one wants to check their bags, so the overheads are stuffed. Those boarding last end up trying to stuff their 'regular' carry-on's under the seat in front of them. ::Rant::
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones... last time I was at O'Hare I went from my taxi, through security and to the gate in 5 minutes flat :D
I love any type of flying, so nothing about airports or airplanes really bothers me... except the seats. I'm never flying AA or Delta again.
I don't blame them when so many airlines are charging another $20 for a checked bag.
Yeah, when it comes to really overstuffing a shitty little plane (MD-80, Fokker 110) with sweaty bags of water (people), AA and Delta have got it down to a science. I've always flown Continental when I go to that part of the country (not often now).
My best commercial flying experience was with a regional carrier... Frontier. New planes, a little more space and all that. It's been quite a while though.
+1 For Frontier. They are my airline of choice for personal travel. I usually get stuck with AA or US Air for business travel. The AA MD80 is what drove me to loose weight.
Meh, I wish most of my business travel was on MD80s, but most of the places I have to travel, the last leg of the trip is always on a 10-12 seat prop plane. :?
I actually prefer the crop dusters to the larger jets.
I liked riding in the Beachcraft Twin Bonanza and Cessna 421 that my father used to fly. You want a tight fit, try flying in a M20D Mooney to Oshkosh.
Both times I've been on a commercial turbo prop (too and front Portland Maine from Laguardia) I was nervous about them, and they ended being the smoothest plane rides I've been on. They fit several more people, but on the way out they did end up doing some balancing, since not enough passengers were booked in that single line of seats across the isle. It was 2 or 3 together, isle then 1 by itself on each row. It was strange looking to me.
Best commercial plane ride ever was on a Dehavilland -7 from Denver to Durango on a clear day, but I like to fly in anything.
My first flight was in one of these on my first day of Army flight school. I have never complained about anything since!
My first flight was in a 1947 Aeronca Champ.

When the pilot started the engine, all the cows knew what to do, they went to the fences.
