Harris Hill Road Test & Tune/Dyno Day 2/20

To kick the Chrono-X Time Trial season off right, H2R will be hosting the first Dyno Day/Test & Tune for the 2010 series.

Get a preview of the cars, classing, and characters that will dominate the upcoming season.

Participants will get a session-based Test & Tune (Five 20-minute runs each, just like an HPDE)** to get their Time Trial cars dialed in and get seat time on track.

The first half of the day will be run in the traditional clockwise direction, and the last two runs of the day will be run in the CCW direction, as we'll be running both directions during the season.

Each vehicle running in the Prepared Class gets a baseline dyno pull* on-site to determine the power-to-weight sub-class for the Chrono-X. To read more about Chrono-X classing, please visit the website at www.chrono-x.com

Pre-season tech inspections will also be available throughout the day on a first-come, first-served basis.

For your entertainment, San Antonio Drift will be doing a drift exhibition during the mid day lunch break.

Lunch will be provided. (I heard a rumor that it will be catered by Bikini's Bar & Grill)

If they allowed alternate wheel sizes in the "Showroom Stock" class I'd be all over it, but my track wheels bump me up to Prepared, which allows way too much crazy shit. Maybe I need some Star Specs for my OEM wheels too... :wink:

I am going to give it a shot in Prep class on Star Specs.

Yeah no wheel allowance in stock is a bummer. This makes all civics and miatas and other cars that came with 13s and 14s uncompetitive. Does anyone know of someone we could email and ask them to change the rule?

I got stock wheels...

So FI bumps me up to R-class. Guess I would only be competing against other miatas.

Now if only I could get the car fixed. Would be happy to co-drive with another TCB...

How are you going to handle dynoing AWD vehicles?

For those that haven't looked, it's $150 for this T&T. I hate it when the price is buried :)

Unfortunately, I already did, and he told me the're committed to sticking with this ruleset this season. But if there is enough demand they will look at changing the SS rules next season.

There's also Sovereignty Shootout and Fastest Lap Categories plus it's a good excuse for track time. Any turbo miata is put into R class.

The 8/21 date will be @ MSR, and I believe they're interested in expanding to more dates at more tracks in '11 if it's successful this year.

I'd contact H2R for your question re: the dyno - they may bring out an awd dyno for all I know.

you can't just trailer up an AWD dyno...

so by adding a supercharger to a street car your put in unlimited. that sounds kinda steep.

My thoughts exactly. Although they mention "lots of sub-classes", there no other reference. +1 for the burying of the price LOL...I may try one just to get the track time (and see what they put us up against).

FI Miatas were among the first that we brought up as possible exceptions to the FI bolt-on rules. The longer we discussed it, though, the more apparent it became that open-class Miatas will still be mid-pack (at least) competitive. We have several members out here running with some pretty impressive cars. In fact, on time alone, there are FI Miatas out there with good drivers that would've been kicked to race class anyway. There are a couple of N/A NCs that are borderline.

That being said, if we can make a sub-class out of a group of cars, we'll do it. There'll be a ton of 'best lap' categories to compete in on top of the main three classes as well.

If in doubt, try one out. The whole idea is to run what you brung, compete against others that have similar cars/setups to yours, and have a good time. If you don't have a good time, then we've done something wrong. :)

edit: Also, apologies for the buried pricing. We're not shy about it, just the way the registration site works. We'll likely be moving to a new in-house reg system by April.

will there be scales?

as for FI miata, you could get itbs, have a built n/a or a v8 swap make the same or more power and not be bumped. we had the same talk in miata challenge 2 weeks ago and a lot of rule changes around it.

Thanks for joining us and addressing our questions. Since I'm in the same boat as Jeff (supercharged street miata) if I'm reading this right that puts us in "R" class. I've really no problem with that (non-compettive and slow that I am), and would like to do this for a few reasons.
1.) Fun, good times (as you mention).
2.) Chance to run the track (both directions a big plus!) as it comes highly recommended by everyone here. Never been there (yet!)
3.) Bikini babes serving lunch.
4.) All of the above.

You say when in doubt, try one out, run what ya brung and have fun. I'm all for it. Only downer I see is the need for a fire suit and shoes and foam neck thingy (don't remember if extinguisher is there as well). Most of us HPDE (wannabe TT drivers) don't have that readialy available (although it wouldn't be a bad idea to get them anyway).

I guess I'll have to just wait for a regular HPDE day there. Any chance they run regular day both directions once in a while? Also, are transponders available to rent?
