Insurance: Allstate vs. Travelers

I currently have Allstate car insurance for auto and have had no major issues. I like my agent, my rates are decent. Buying a house and shopping around for homeowners, several independent agents have shopped around and come back with Travelers for both home and auto. The rates are quite a bit better compared to Allstate (saves me about $50 a month total).

Has anyone used Travelers for auto/homeowners before, any good/bad experience? What about using an independent agent? The rates are tempting but I trust my local Allstate agent and don't know if the service with Travelers is good. If it sucks I'd rather pay $50 more.

I concur. Best advice ever found here; like a frog in a pot of water being heated, Allstate kept upping the bill every six months until I finally hit my boiling point and got several quotes of which Amica was the best deal for combined coverages.

I've been on Traveller's for the past couple years. I've not had any claims though... I do like my independent agent. We were on Farmers before, but Travellers saved us quite a bit of money.

I've not looked closely at my policy in a while, but some people have said that they might cover DE accidents. I'd have to take a closer look though.

I have had our home and cars under Travelers through an independent agent for 6 years now, but have filed no claims. From what the agent told me at the time, they base their rates heavily upon credit scores. He said that they tended to have the best rates available for those with excellent credit but were not competitive for those with a credit score under 700.

I'm not having much fun with Travelers, but they're not my insurance provider...

That makes sense, a few independent agents all came back with Travelers and the rates are good. My credit score is around 800. More or less worried about claims and/or service. For those of you that use Travelers with an independent agent when you have a question do you have to call Travelers customer service or the local agent?

Just call Amica's toll-free number....they have been very friendly and helpful since we've been with them.

FWIW, we were with Liberty Mutual for 13 years and never filed a claim. Rates kept increasing and when given the opportunity to keep a customer they blew us off. We switched to Germania (independent agent) when we moved to NRH. Same thing....rates increased with no claims. As soon as we got the check for a new roof last year after a hail storm, I dumped them and switched to Amica. Savings were significant!

My Travelers Policy is through Home Team Insurance in Plano. 972-665-1930. For policy changes and questions, I call the Home Team office. There is a 24hr 800 number to travelers for claim service but I have never used it.

Thanks to Cosmos for bringing this topic up at the right time (as I'm scrambling to shave cost out of everything to pay for diapers! :wink: ). I called Amica today, and their quote was almost $1000 less per year for combined homeowner's/auto insurance than what I currently pay for Allstate, with the same coverage and claim limits.

That's a whole lot of Huggies! :shock:

Apparently Allstate's policy of incrementally edging up the cost at every renewal works just great... for them. Not so much for me. Glad this thread prompted me to look into it. :banghead:

I loved dealing with Amica. They're a great company. I did almost half my auto/home insurance (same coverages) when I switched to Liberty Mutual under our corporate discount. That's the only reason I would have switched away from Amica.

I know it's not Amica or whatever, but my girlfriend and I went through TWG for our home owner's and auto insurance. Even after it going up quite a few times (they put the wrong county the first time, they didn't add her to my car, and something else stupid), it is still ~$1000 cheaper than we found anywhere else for the same coverage. We actually have more home coverage than with other companies.

Back from the dead...got my (first) annual dividend check from Amica today! ::Banana:: When is the last time you got money back from an insurance carrier?

I am insured by Travelers with a policy through Home Team in Plano, Customer service was great I did save a butt load over what Nationwide was charging me. On the downside I have never filed a claim so I don't have any experience on that end

Travelers finally got off my list. My insurance is through Allstate & American Modern

Back from the dead again...have to give huge props to Amica. I filed a claim (hail storm on 4/3/12) thru their website last Thursday morning, and they called me within 2 hours to verify my info. They had an appraiser come to my work and look over my car on Friday morning. Had a check in my hand on Saturday morning.
