Sorry if most of you already know this but for those who don't, I found (from miata.net) that using a paintbrush to apply protectant to your top works great! It evenly spreads it and doesn't soak it up like towels or microfiber cloths. It makes it much easier to apply evenly on the edges right by the windows.
Just thought I'd share.
