Amazon bought Woot

I just saw on the news that Amazon bought out Woot. That's too bad, I liked Woot.

I saw that yesterday.

There was a letter by their CEO posted (funny as always). Basically said they'll be a subsidiary, but will continue operating like normal. Gives them access to Amazon's technology, and my guess is Amazon can use them to move new/different/outdated products.

will be interesting to see what happens.

Holy crap! Woot has signed an agreement with Amazon - yes, the Amazon - to become an independent subsidiary of the ecommerce colossus. Woot HQ will remain in Carrollton, Texas, and will operate as autonomously as other Amazon companies like Zappos and Audible.

I think it will be a good thing. It seems that I see the same stuff over and over of Woot. Perhaps Amazon will supply some variety, perhaps using them to deleplete overstock or outgoing product for a low price. It initially appears to be a win-win to me.

Saw this in an email yesterday...funny quotes include:

"And our plans for Grail.Woot are on indefinite hold." ; "For Woot, our vision remains the same: somehow earning a living on snarky commentary and junk."; and

"our business model is so vague that there’s no way Amazon can possibly change what it is we’re truly doing"

Looking foward to triple rewards on my woot junk purchases!

The woot for today was the Amazon Kindle which sold out this morning and is no longer available for sale at Amazon. It is being replaced with the Kindle DX (available for preorder). How convenient for Amazon (and Woot to be able to offer an exclusive "non refurb" item)!

I am expecting better quality crap and perhaps less referbs.
