should i buy this motor?

its a 1993 1.6L motor, with 126K on it. the guy says it is throwing a code 10 which is "Intake air thermistor in airflow meter open or short circuit", basicly telling me it needs a new MAF (which i have). he also says he isnt getting spark, he says he "...found the black box computer stuff was bad..." and it might need a new coilpack (which i have) and he wants $150 for it.

also he has never seen the motor run, but it pulls good compression.

what do you guys think? take a chance? or leave it for another motor?

How does he know it has good compression if he has never seen the motor run? ::Hmm::

I'd get a leak down before committing to anything. The problem with any used motor is that it is a gamble. Is $150 a reasonable gamble to you? If so, get it. If $150 would hurt keep looking.

oh thats easy. its a crank no start.

the guy is a older guy, so he dosent know much about newer cars... which is why im thinking he is selling it so cheap. i would much rather spend $150 than $300 on a motor, no used motor is garenteed to start so i would rather spend the $150.

im just saying do you think its worth it to buy it?

$150 is not much money these days. It's the time you spend on the install that would cost the most. Like you say, any used motor is a gamble.

lol well if he called the ECU the "black computer box thingy" then i dont thinke he knows much about newer cars lol
