Blinker too fast on one side

When I was driving on the highway this weekend I ran over what looked like an 18 wheeler's tire tread with the left side of my car, completely unavoidable. It was a pretty decent hit. For whatever reason, this caused my left blinker to blink at least twice as fast as it should. Both bulbs (front and rear on the left side) twice as fast, the indicator on the cluster blinks and clicks twice as fast, to be perfectly clear.

It's been working completely fine ever since I bought the car and the front and rear bulbs are both working fine. The right blinker operates as it should and the hazards operate at the normal rate.

What's going on? Left turns annoy me now.

Sounds like a burned out bulb somewhere.

could have just knocked a connection loose. check the bulbs and the connections on them

Yep. Burned out bulb or faulty connection is the likely culprit. Bad flasher is a less likely culprit.

atleast you dont have one of my old civics. everytime i hit a hard bump my left binker would start blinking fast. it was really annoying

Check all of the bulbs, and don't forget the trunk brake light bulb.

I had a similar situation that lasted for a year or so, it would blink fast for a month, then go back to normal for two months, only to come back later. I went through all the blinker and brake light bulbs and never found anything. Then I went to change out the trunk bulb one day and discovered that the connector and wires were melted and the bulb was solid black near the bottom. My guess is the bulb was blown and a bumpy road must have droped the filiment just right near the bottom of the bulb to complete the circuit somehow, this caused lots of heat build up on the bottom of the bulb, melting everything and causing a short that would go away and come back on bumpy roads. Cleaned up the connector and wiring and changed the bulb, haven't had the problem in over 3 years.

Thanks for the replies guys. Unfortunately I've been extremely busy but I'll check tomorrow. My immediate thought was "bulb duh" but saw that all the blinker bulbs were working so I didn't think about the possibility of another bulb being dead. I'll report in with what I find.

I've purchased the wrong replacement bulb for a car and experienced the same problem. It sounds like a faulty or loose bulb could probably cause the same issue. I'd just go ahead and replace them all. Let us know if it works.

It probably is a little low on blinker fluid.

I have had similar issues with the 91 M Sometimes the blinker works correctly and sometimes i hear it clicking real fast on the left
side but no lights will work. Right hand side works fine with no problems. So I went under the dash and pulled the harness
connection to the flasher. sprayed it with CRC and plugged it back in - problem solved! Bad connection....

Check it first then go to bulbs

Mine uses the synthetic version and the blinkers never miss a blink! :-)
