Best lap from ECR

Didn't want to muddy up Ken O's thread with Miata style lap times.

Here's my quickest for the weekend - 2:18:17. I wouldn't have been DFL in the SM qualifier. :)

I went through all the data for the weekend, and there was another full second to be had, but it will come a bit at a time - about .1 better through each sector I've got the track divided into.

And i'm convinced I need to take some toe out of the rear to help with rotation. On power push made the drive out of 3 and 10 pretty wild on a few occasions.

The yellow car is an instructor in a SM - this was the last lap of the session where we'd been doing lead/follow.

And I got signed off for HPDE level 3. Woowoo!

You should have a slight toe in on the rear. What are your specs?

Toe 0.0

Rear
Camber -2.2
Toe .13 in (1/8")
Thrust 0.0

Ride height is 4 3/4" front and rear

My thought was to take the rear toe down to 1/16 and possibly to raise the rear ride height to 4 7/8.

Did you have it corner balanced?

Do you know what front tire temps are across the tire? I always wondered why Miatas ran less camber in the front. Less weight than heavier cars?

The fast cars run more camber in the front. Mine does too. lol

I don't know about you SM guys, and I don't know much about set-up but when I got away from your specs and went to the 949 specs, my car came alive.
4"f 4.25" rear ride height all the way around (but you need a shock that can handle this)
2.7*front camber
0 tow (a little toe out won't hurt)
3.5 caster (no PS)
2.5* rear camber
1/16" tow in (because it makes power, 0 tow if you're @ 100whp)

If you want a competitive SM set-up you're going to have different specs on all 4-wheels, for each track, and have a bigger brain than me.

Corner balancing is something I need to have done still. Trying to wrap my mind around paying shop rates to have it done or just picking up a set of scales. (3-4x the startup, but then i can do it at will). I did roll across the NASA tech scales and it was 2060 without me and 2245 with - the left front was about 50# heavier than the right front and the rears were within 10-15# of each other, so it's close already.

I didn't take temps, but hot pressures were 38 pounds all around, and the tires never got greasy. The only time I got loose all weekend was the downhill of turn 9 - clipped the curb enough to upset the car and the rear washed out. The rears were warmer to the touch than the fronts. Front tread depth is .1 mm less on the outside of the fronts, (I swap front to rear each weekend) so a bit more front camber may be in order. The alignment that's on the car was recommended by Gary knowing that I was a noob and was mildly aggressive for the street yet still stable on track (understeer being safer than oversteer for a rookie) - perhaps I've just outgrown it?

The JD setup guide for SM specs -2.5* rear camber and -3* front (or as much as is mechanically possible), 3-5* caster and 0 toe at 4 5/8 ride height.

2060 lbs. ? Hmm... impressive I'm at 2,061 lbs. and gutted to within an inch of its life.

Ahhhh. The joys of a '90 NA6.

Soft top is out, all the carpet padding is out, air bag stuff is out (along with 80% of the wiring, stock seats and rails out, lightweight exhaust and cat, light clutch PP and flywheel, depowered steering rack and AC removed. About all I have left for the easy stuff is the carpet, stereo, door speakers and to drain the windshield washer bottle.

The only weight back in is the roll bar and door bars to stiffen things up a bit.

Now the million dollar question is where to get the alignment done with driver to custom specs at tight tolerances that's TCB approved.

I have done all that mentioned above, plus some... I can't complain being within 1 lb. of ya though. :)

PTP's corner balancing is good and not that expensive. As well they are running a special if you've signed up for a TDE event (check the motorsports forum on DI).

I should have rolled up on the BMW more going through 4, 5, and 6. I would have had the point by on the back stretch and the Z never would have caught me.

Exporting the video of the same 2 laps from my car just for comparison. :)

Oh, and I'm in for MSRC 1.7 Clockwise on 10/23-24. Rick said he has me down for a yellow group check ride.

Keep us posted. I have to finish replacing the rear cam bolts for the control arms and then will be ready for another alignment. Lord knows I will not find a shop here in Granbury, and I am not PST economically viable.
