After last year I guess we'll just do the Paris & SA events then..... Too bad nothing local.
I like the Riverside Annex, so that's fine with me. Looking forward to it.
There might be a change on that date!
Complications of events happening at the same time in College Station. {Parents Weekend}
...just try to book a hotel room even near College Station that weekend!
The main reason I care is for family vacation/travel plans. We have a big reunion in NC every summer, and I try to have some input to the scheduling.
So this is what's on the SCCA site (sounds like the first one may be rescheduled/cancelled):
Southwest Division www.sowdivscca.org
April 16-17, 2011 - Texas A & M - hosted by Houston Region
May 14-15, 2011 - Paris, Texas - hosted by the Texas Region
June 18-19, 2011 - San Antonio, Texas - hosted by Alamo & Lone Star Regions
Well...
Best laid plans often fall apart. There's a good chance the Houston Region date & the TX Region date will change for the Divisional.
We had a VERY cool event laid out for our Div in Paris, TX. The city was doing everything but handing over the keys for our event planned in May. Local sponsors were lined up. Big party planned at the Civic center. Shuttle bus dedicated to our event. Vendors planned for on-site food. And quite a bit more!
But, it turns out that the Airport Authority... not so happy. And their minds were not going to be changed even after a meeting last week.
So, we're desperately working on another location! And this might mean a different date too!
The only solid date as of today is the San Antonio date. Sorry folks! That's just the way the situation is right now.
Divisional update -
Texas Region Divisonal will be at TMS. Same date as announced, May 14/15.

I wasn't happy with the Houston Regions handling of the event at TAMU
too much stupid and unnecessary fun killing stuff
I'll skip anything they put on there
I've avoided past events at TAMU because they only had a sliver of area to set up a course. Because of that, the courses went to the edges and mistakes became car killers.
Neal, what exactly was the "fun killing stuff" that Houston Region is doing? Airport related junk? Crappy party? Booze ban?
not airport related, got to understand there are requirements to use any site
party was fine with lots of food/drink and hospitality
my reasons are:
course finish was stupid (ran you thru a bunch of crap)
heats really unbalanced so some worked half again as long as others
poor event administration on day of event, such as:
no way to learn times without sprinting a hundred yards to see if posted and they never were in any kind of timely manner
PA impossible to hear to learn your times
rule that "no automobile can be idling" even with hand brake on if a kids kart is running two hundred yards away and no where nearby ever and guy screaming to the effect that if your car's engine is running while parked with no one in it you are DSQ
Houston Region member worker corner chief threatening worker who is on the brink of heat exhaustion with DSQ for suggesting they will sit down or go for shade, and in spite of repeated subsequent inquiries no consequences ever heard about regarding that kind of behavior
I'll go to events that are better run and you are treated common decency
