Failure to display two license plates ticket @#$@$

I think this has come up before, but I dont recall seeing the answer to the following question. I got one this morning, and I can get it dismissed if I bring the car to the court and they can visually determine it is mounted. My question is, how stirngent are they going to be about how it is mounted? I'm thinking of ordering one of those disppearing brackets so that at highway speed it folds up but pops down at slower speeds or a stop. But, before I do that, would they accept a TCB type of install such as bungee cords or wire tie straps etc wrapped around and securing it in place?

I got tired of cop harassment on this front, so I made a really TCB sidearm bracket out of an OEM piece and then bolted it to one of the baby teeth. It looks fine to my eye and keeps po-po off my back. I don't know firsthand, but I hear our donut-eating friends are not real keen on swinging brackets.

My instructions here:

1. Take one slightly mangled OEM bracket, straighten it out, then cut off the driver's side bumper-mount leg.

2. Use leftover Grade 8 nut/bolt and flat washers to fasten bracket to the baby tooth. Tighten the bejeezus out it so it doesn't move. It's Grade 8, you won't break it.

3. Pick up some stainless license plate hardware from O'Reilly's - $2.29 + tax.

4. Admire handiwork while enjoying a steak dinner purchased with all the money you saved by not wasting your money on a fancy bracket.

When I got a ticket I just zip tied the plate to my grill, went to the courthouse and a deputy came out signed that it was on and then I cut off the zip ties, put the plate back in my trunk and drove off.

You guys must look suspicious or have a loud exhaust ;). I have not been pulled over for not having a FLP for 3 years (knock on wood)!

Didnt help that he pulled me over for doing 50 in a 40 then acted like a NASCAR official inspecting my car for any and all problems while writing out the speeding ticket. I've had the car almost a year and have never been given a problem for it in the past. He probably wouldnt have given me a problem this morning if I hadnt been pulled over for speeding. I came in to work late and figured 635 would be a madehouse so I cut through Carrollton on Belt Line. Motorcycle cop hiding behind some bushes or a dumpster. Scared the Bejesus out of me as he jumped out in the road and was right beside me with his lights flashing. I didnt realize I was speeding and at first thought he was going after someone else.

Ouch, he gave you the speeding ticket too? I always went by the philosophy of "have at least 2 non-important illegal things on the car at all times to get out of speeding tickets" and it has never let me down yet. Usually it was a no front plate ticket, tinted rear plate cover (aka unclear plates) ticket, or tint on the front doors (in NJ) instead of the speeding ticket, never a combination. That sucks...

I've never actually received a ticket for no front plate. It's always been the non-specific "I'm in the mood to eff with the citizenry" stop - and usually it's the State Storm Troopers that are interested. I've always used the "just got the car and it didn't have a bracket" excuse, but since I just don't like cops, I'd rather not deal with them in the first place.

Imagine you've had a beer or two with the buddies. You're fine to drive, but the officer pulls you over for no front plate. Those beers will haunt you. All you had to do was mount a front plate.

Thats why I run one. I was pulled 7 times by Northlake Gustapo and only the first 2 was i in the wrong.I put a hinged plate up front and kept getting pulled over, but cops were just confused and never figured it out.The last time I had several cases of Shiner in the passenger seat, and I decided I better start running a plate.They can search your car if the top is down, and it just gives them reason to harrass you.Ask William about his hinged plate, that is hilarious. ;)

I think they still have to have some semblance of probably cause.

Apparently officer Hollis with the CPD was feeling a bit judicious that day. I'm thinking about letting my lawyer buddy try and appeal it out of Carrollton and into the abyss of the Dallas Count Court system. I'll TCB the plate and pay their little dismissal fee though.

after getting harrased by carrollten pd for no front plate on the ms3 (old dude on bike) i got a side mount bracket but got let off a week later for 102 mph down 121 by a different cpd, go figure

Hearing this is mainly a DPS issue, and not having time to sit on the side of the road with some jerk who is jealous because he's not driving this car, I put a side style plate on and consider it a pretty cool looking upgrade! It's on tight but it may be the squeak I'm looking for.

This is why I put my front plate on (similar to how you put yours on). If you don't have the plate, they can pull you over for that and then anything else they come across is fair game. I'd rather not give them a freebie to pull me over. Back college my car didn't have a front plate and I was pulled over immediately after I left a bar. I hadn't had a drop of alcohol, which is of course what they were after. They told me to put the plate on my car and sent me on my way.

I've gotten mixed opinions from officers about putting the front plate on the dash. One told me it was fine, most have said it must be on the front of the car. Mine is zip tied to the baby tooth and the front lip spoiler. I didn't want to block the radiator at all.

My coworker is married to a cop and she doesn't have a plate on the front of her SUV...my nephew is a cop and he advised that it's up to the cop...and the cops division superiors as to how they handle any particular situation. What they come after you for depends on what city you're driving through.
