Triangle Talon TR968 review.

Okay, so I got these 205/40 17 tires from the dealership when I got the car. They said the previous tires were on the wear bars and so they put some "good" rubber on.

The tread pattern is aggressive looking, but as we all know looks can be deceiving....
I was never really satisfied with the dry traction these had. It was a very hard compound with just barely enough traction to keep my tires from getting loose under semi-hard acceleration. The road noise is unbearable at 30-50 MPH, but have pretty good responsiveness. Overall they seemed like they would do the job for a cheap daily tire.

Well, today was my first experience with them in wet conditions. These tires are DIABOLICAL. I got horrible traction. Now I now you're thinking I might have been driving a bit hard, but I'm a pretty cautious driver, especially in my MSM. I did everything I could to find traction that just wasn't there. These tires are HORRENDOUS. Over all they aren't even worth the $70 price tag.Stay away from these tires at ALL costs. They have the potential to get you in a serious wreck.




That's my .02 for now. I just needed to let everyone know to stay away from these horrible tires.

I know, but I've seen Ling Longs do better. Plus there aren't many reviews on the tire, so I wanted to get one put there.

Wow. Actually glad you posted this. The previous owner of the car I bought put a set of these on before selling me the car. I'm getting all the same problems as you. Especially the horrible road noise between 30 & 50 mph.

Not a big surprise that these tires are bad but they really have no grip at all. I haven't driven them in the rain yet but I'm not looking forward to it. :(

Just be cateful in the wet. It can be managed, but you have to drive like an old woman.

Talking about cheap Chinese Tires. I took a chance and bought some Federal 595 RS-R. I will see how they perform as a cheaper alternative EPS tires.

I think I'm going to stay away from odd brands like that. I'm getting some Nitto NeoGens soon. Hopefully they'll be nice.

Yokohama S-Drives or Hankook V12's for the performance DD tire win! Not even all that pricey.

I have a very small budget. I have about $500 to spend. I might actually buy the Firestone Firehawk wide oval Indy 500's. I've heard some really good things about them. Bridgestone Potenza RE760's some day.

I've got the V12's on the M5 right now. On a mega road trip and they're doing great, even up here in the mountains.

Thanks jrj, but I'm kind of skeptical about having tires shipped. How much do tire shops usually charge to mount, and balance? Also, I'd like to have lifetime rotations and balances.

A good set of performance tires on these cars are good for a year or two if you actually drive the car. So your not really going to get to full advantage out of that lifetime rotation and balance. I've got lifetime rotate and Balnce on my 1967 Cadillacs tires and that has been worth it. ;-)

Buy performance tires it is a performance car and is way more fun when you can safely utilize all the cars potential.

Tirerack is about all I use anymore for all my cars your looking at $40.00 to $60.00 to mount and balance a set.

Tirerack prices are normally matched by Discount Tire if ya want to stay local, ya have to barter to get it but it is worth it.

Also on your signature line the word amateur is misspelled could ya fix that.

Ditto on the 'Kook V12 Evos. I've got a set on my S2000 and they've been surprisingly good street tires. I'll still be swapping to RS-3s when these wear out, though.

As for Tire Rack - I haven't ordered tires any other way in almost a decade. They always have good prices and top notch customer service. You can even have the tires shipped directly to a local installer if you don't prefer to have them show up on your porch.

Like POS said - it's a sports car. Tires are the most critical part on a car, since they are the car's only contact with the road. Don't skimp on crappy tires.

No personal experience, but I've heard those are a great performance tire. I was looking for a set in 205/50/15 but was having a hard time finding that size, and ended up with a good deal on azenis instead.

Discount tire will match tire rack, but will sometimes charge you a bit more since tr charges shipping, but u can get your mount/balance. If you do tire rack, walmart will mount tires for $5,

A decent cheap option are Summitomo's for a daily tire. Not the best by any means, but I didn't have any issues with my HTR II's... I had them in 185/60/14 205/60/14 on the Spyder. Surprisingly better than I expected, decent wet traction if you don't floor it, a little floaty with the tall sidewall. Not bad for tires that ended up costing less than $250 installed. but those were 14's i'm sure the MSM will be more expensive.
