Lake Tahoe Concours d'Elegance
As some of you already know, my Dad is an avid classic boat guy, with several old boats that he has restored over the years. Each year he attends the Lake Tahoe Concours d'Elegance, which is considered the Pebble Beach of boat shows, but usually doesn't actual enter a boat. The show is more for museum pieces, and his boats all get a lot of use.
Over the last year, Dad has been working on re-restoring "Miss Jamie", a 1961 Chris Craft Continetal. He finished it up about 2 1/2 weeks ago, and then took it straight to the Tahoe Keys Boat show. Tahoe Keys is a low key show, similar to a typical car show with classes and trophys. Miss Jamie took home several awards at the show, including a Best of Show. Along with his large haul of of trophies and Korbel magnums, he received an invitiation to enter the boat in the Lake Tahoe Concours d'Elegance happening the following weekend.

After sleeping on it, Dad called together 2 of his boat friends, and they spent the next 3 full days getting the boat "Concours" ready. This included things like making sure screw heads were all polished and turned the same way, repainting normally hidden things like the fuel pump, borrowing and installing an original style battery, etc. They then headed back toward Tahoe, with a quick stop at the re-finisher for some varnish touch-up. Less than a week after the Keys show, the boat was lowered in to the water for the Concours show.

For those of you who are not familial with Concours awards, the car/boat is not judged against others at the show. Instead, judges examine condition and originality of many different things each one scored independently. The scores are then tallied up, with a maximum of 100 points. If you score 95 points or higher, it is a First Place. 90-94.99 is a second Place. 85-89.99 is a Third Place. Because you are not judged against your competitors, a class can have multiple first place winners or no first place winners.
A 3 man judging team spent "what seemed like almost an hour" going over every inch of Miss Jamie, holding it to a standard higher than the factory ever did. They took a first place. I am pretty sure my Dad is more proud of Miss Jamie than he ever was of me! LOL
