Decent Supplier of Rear Calipers NA??

Got a rear caliper that wants to stay in constant contact with the rotor no matter what they are BFF! :rolleyes:

So I check Mazdaspeed and they are getting about a $180.00 a pop for rear calipers for my '94 (plus Tax and Shipping). My guess is they are new but my car isn't so I'm not spending that many pennies.

So then I got over to RockAuto and they are all over the map on pricing. They do have a Raybestos Premium Re manufactured caliper that even includes the bracket for just under a $100.00.

What is the going rate for a decently rebuilt rear caliper with an actual warranty??

I went with AutoZone's Duralast with a limited life time warranty and it had all the hardware with it.

This summer I had to replace the right front and the left rear calipers. So far they have been behaving very well.

One of the shops I worked at back in the day used all Raybestos stuff. I put new (rebuilt Raybestos) ones all around on my Miata when I first got it in 2003. I haven't had a single problem with them the entire time they were on the car (still are), including when the car went untouched for over two years.

I can say that I have noticed for nearly every car that you might want to look in to "loaded" calipers. They come with the caliper, bracket, pads, and hardware kit. All that stuff, and for whatever reason they were cheaper than buying just the calipers (again, this was back in the early 2000s, so it might be different now). The pads are obviously crap, so just toss them. Use the brackets or not, but make sure to grab all the new hardware (pins, clips, boots, etc).

And check NAPA. They usually have the best brake system prices. I looked yesterday and they had front sport brake calipers for like $117 ("including $65 core").

Otherwise, I know a guy parting his '96 in NJ...could probably grab the rear calipers from him for cheap. But of course they are used, so...

+1 Also check O'Reilly's. I prefer them over AZ.

Oh, if you go the Rock Auto route, I believe I have the usual coupon that is valid till early November. I can look for it if needed.

Out of the big box brands the "Duralast" Autozone house brand I've had the worst luck with. The parts usually work............for a little bit then they get sloppy or just stop working period. I'd get a brand known for brakes from Rock Auto myself.

I like the fact the Raybestos unit includes the bracket since the bracket on mine has been on the car since it departed Hiroshima back in the fall of 1993.

cone-cerned do the Vatozone units include the braket??

No Jersey Shore Parts for my car thanks. You may find this shocking but they do part out cars in other parts of the country as well. If I get any used parts I get them from southern cars. But nice spray on tan Rob®. ;)

+1 that is why I am leaning towards the Raybestos units.

I replaced one of mine recently with one from OReillys. It was a fairly easy job and has not leaked. I believe it was around $60 with exchange.

I have the rear brackets from that car and they are rust free. One day I'll install them. Covered in hair gel and Drakar or not, a pair of 1.8l rear caliper brackets for just the cost of shipping was worth it to me (which is why I suggested it as an option if it came to it). And it's an Atlantic City car, douche.

No bracket, no pads but all the hardware.

I had to transfer the bracket on mine also. A couple of hits with the impact wrench and they were off.

Had the passenger side hang like a SOB on the way home from the NTAXS event so I guess I need to move this project up the list....... :punchout:
