I'd be interested in the old CAS to tinker with...
They are supposed to be an optical unit inside and I'm wondering how easy it would be to take apart and fix.

1.6l right?
Yes... 1.6L
What size bolt was the CAS again?
Thanks,
Chris

bingo. Thanks
If you havent found one, I have one but it is for a 99, so I dont think it would fit.
That won't fit... it's hall-effect and the older pre 3/95 sensors are optical.

Thanks you everyone for all of the help and offers to loan me CAS's.
I got impatient and so I went with my gut and bought a used CAS from Mazda Heaven in Fort Worth and got a courier to bring it to me ($22 = worth not having to drive back and forth to ft worth after work).
Well that fixed it. I had just changed the O-ring and I think the CAS was emotionally attached to the old o-ring so it harry-karry'ed itself.
It cost $85 for the CAS+ $22 courier, the big mazda recycler in CA wanted $100 + 35 overnight, so I am still ahead and my car is running tonight. Mazdamotorsports wanted $272 for a new one.... yikes(that is half a spare used 1.6L)
Now I just have no idea what my timing is set at.....
Chris
Glad to hear that it all worked out. I've been meaning for some time to make the trip out to Mazda Heaven for a bunch of little things.

Chris,
Don't throw away the old one... I'd like a chance to disassemble it to see what broke on it.
Yes, I'm a nerd... ;)

You can have it. I did take the cover off to look at what was inside, and there was nothing mechanical was broken. Maybe the eye was shot.
