i'd love to send all my a/c crap to dallas....it's off my 92. I for sure have my compressor...maybe more...how's $40 sound?
You want a new dryer for sure. You might as well get a new evap and expansion valve too.
That's the second time I hear that, y is that exactly
Is it possible to install an R134 system on a 91? If so that is what I would want to do.
yeah, mines is or was converted before it stopped working
No not convert but actually install the R134 components from a 1.8. The compressor and condensor are different since 134 is less efficient than R12.
You can easily convert an R-12 to R-134a without swapping components. I've done this on several conversions. I generally change out all the o-rings to insure everything is well sealed. You will also need R-12 to R-134a adapters to connect the lines too. They're about $30.00.
To the O.P.
You need a new dryer because when it is open to the atmosphere it clogs up quickly. It is designed to absorb moisture in the system and air has lots of moisture. An A/C system is in a vacuum. No air, just Freon.
The expansion valve sprays the Freon into a mist. Because it has a extremely small nozzle, if you will, small specs of dirt can clog it easily. Both the parts are cheap to replace and highly recommended.
Now the first thing you need to do is confirm your system holds a vacuum. If there is no Freon, it probably leaked out somewhere. Adding new Freon will only be a short-term solution.
To OP: you can purchase both parts from a business called "AC parts" locally, they are located in Rockwall. Here's their website:

Purchased...thanks everyone
