Has anyone here ever rented a car hauler from U-haul? I'm considering it for Hallett, but am wondering if I might have issues getting a lowered Miata on that trailer. Also, has anyone ever used wheels traps to secure a car to a trailer? Do they work as well as straps connected to the subframe?

UHaul has a very nice car hauler. Built in brakes, good maintenance, reasonable price. I have a lowered 67Shelby that drives on with no issues at all.
When I raise the suspension electronically on my family SUV, it slightly tilts the tail of the car hauler down an inch. The same effect can be found by parking the rear tires of the tow vehicle on a speed bump or low curb.
Tire straps on UHaul will suffice, cinch them down. There is also a safety chain at the rear of the hauler that loops over the rear suspension--this should not be tight since it will cut a brake or fuel line.
Be aware that the car will still bounce a little. THe hauler is designed to absorb this. After a while, you will forget that it is back there.

There was a time that Uhaul's computer system would not allow you to rent if Miata was entered as the vehicle to be towed. Don't know if that is still the case.

I have rented uhaul trailers in the past a few times for racing events. Most of them aren't open on Sunday and close early on Saturday so if you time it right you can get a weekend for the price of a single day. I have always had clearance issues with the Honda and other lowered cars in the past. But almost always using oil change ramps on the back wheels of the truck give you more than enough clearance.
the only Ryder trailers I see for rent online are flatbeds for Semis. And I think Penske won't rent you a trailer unless you also rent the tow vehicle from them.Quote:

If I didn't have a trailer already and need one I would rent one again and just double check all trailer maint.
My friend got a flatbed from Taylor Rental here in Garland when we had to move his MGB a while back. Not sure what he paid, but it was a nice trailer.
