I have the appradio 1 in my truck. It is definitely one of the worst head units ever made. It freezes up all the time, take 60 seconds to boot and has all sorts of UI issues (example: you can't see the clock when listening to music!!!). The list of compatible IOS apps is tiny and hasn't grown much in the past year. There is only one halfway decent navigation app. Worst of all pioneer stopped supporting it very early on with no new updates to fix the issues. Once people upgraded their phones to IOS5 they suddenly lost tons of functionality or ieven worse if you bought the new iphone 5 your head unit is now just an AM/FM radio.
All of that said I don't feel to badly about the purchase. I got my head unit for $159 shipped from a black friday sale.
I have heard that the android version is a lot better. Apparently there is a way to get full screen mirroring to work with a jailbroken phone. If that's true it makes the appradio a much better deal as 100% of your apps would work on the HU screen.
I think there is another brand (alpine perhaps?) that makes a head unit that can pair with a few select apps. I know it can do pandora and garmin gps. That is what I am going to upgrade to later this year.
You can get the appradio 2 for $135 (save $210) but no CD/DVD.
Who has CDs in there car anymore anyway.
Anyone have real experience with 2?
They're double din too which throws a curve.
They are also not iPhone5 compatible which sucks.
Neat concept but what happens when the next gen iPhone comes out and it isn't compatible? Like Davidss said, it basically becomes a brick. No bueno. I'd prefer a single DIN scaled down version. I am actually looking for a new HU that does bluetooth audio streaming for Pandora and multicolored illumination. I don't care about CD, AM/FM, etc as I only listen to Pandora in my car.
The Bose is a double DIN isn't it? (No pocket under the radio.)

I just installed this at $130 shipped with all the things I needed to install in the Miata. It is nothing fancy. I can make/receive calls hand-free and play music from iPhone 5 w/o any cable etc. I can stream Pandora from my phone to the HU. It also stream the voice directions from my Google Map from the phone. Best of all it has USB port in the front for charging the phone when it is low on juice. Also, it has an AUX jack in the font. You can connect just about anything you want to HU. Again this HU does not has the sexy multi-in touch screen, but it is more than adequate of my DD on TCB budget. Beside I don't have to worry someone going to slash my top for the sexy high dollar multi-in touch screen HU. Crutchfield even send a free cubbie to convert the double din space for new single din HU.
