I've noticed that my CRV is consuming a good bit of oil. It doesn't appear to be a leak, as I don't see it on the driveway or signs of it on the outside of the motor. I also recently had to put in a new radiator and when I drained the coolant, I saw no signs of oil in it.
For the most part, I don't see any smoke coming out of it except if I really step on it and get the revs up high and then I see some smoke out of it.
So that leaves me with oil going through the motor and out the tail pipe. The two main areas I know of is oil leaking around the valves or the piston rings.
Does anyone know if there is a way to test to see which it might be? Swapping a head is one thing, swapping the whole motor is something else.
I'm going to try to get a compression test done, but I have a feeling that will just tell me there is a leak, but not if it's a head or a piston issue.
Any thoughts? Also, the motor has 140K miles on it, so it's not exactly new, but it's not a very high mileage CRV either.
Thanks!
