Auto Ins. Question

Well it is my turn! While waiting for the red light, I was hit from behind. The car behind the car behind me was not able to stop and push the car behind me into my rear bumper. It make a couple screw holes on the skin and several scratches.

Question:
1. Should I call my insurance? OR
2. Should I call the insurance of the car behind me? OR
3. Should I call the insurance of the 3rd,the one started the accident?
4. Since it is not my fault, will my insurance rate be affected in the future?

Hopefully you got their insurance info....call your insurance and report it. Did you get a police report?

Shouldn't affect your rates since you're not at fault.

Been there...the insurance of the car that directly impacted you should be responsible for your car. I would still notify my insurance, but only as a notice of a incident, not to initiate a claim.

The car in the back of this 3 way is responsible for repairing both the car he / she hit and your car. You can have your insurance fix your car (you deductible will apply) and your insurance company will subrogate to the responsible insurance company for payment.

The insurance company of the 3rd car will ask you if you got hit 1or 2 times. 1 time = 3rd car pays, 2 times= 2nd car pays.

Motorollow is right. Happened to me in a truck I used to have. 3rd persons insurance ended up paying for both my car repairs and the person they pushed into me.

You don't have to figure any of this out for yourself...if you initiate the claim on the person that physically impacted you that insurance may try to recoup from the 3rd car, but that isn't your problem. ...if they give you poop about it, ask if they want you to call the hammer. Insurance doesn't want that b/c their cost double when a lawyer gets involved. The law leeches want to paid too...not just get your car fixed.

Yep, file your claim against the car that hit you. Their insurance company will go after the other driver for the damage to both cars. If they are less than coooerative, file with your insurance and let them earn their money. While the 3rd driver is probably at fault, there are rules about how far you are supposed to be from the car in front of you when stopped. I recall being taught that you should be able to see the rear tires off the car in front of you, back in drivers ed in the mid-80s.

Call the other person's insurance make sure the claim is in progress. Call your own insurance to let them know of the incident (don't make a claim). That way if their insurance turns out to be shady or try to screw you over your own insurance company can help you along. Or worst case scenario you can file a claim using non-insured driver insurance (if needed).
