How beneficial is this, for our cars?
Is it legal in STS?
Most engine builders I have spoken to caution against using these on a miata. Had a conversation Monday with my builder in Kansas and he will not build a motor if you plan on using one of these.
Sts legal.
I believe the concern for these is not that they are underdrive, but that they do not have any dampener (1-piece), which is harder on the engine internals. For a street driven car at normal rpm-limit, probably not an issue. For a track car or extended higher-than-normal revs, might be problematic. Having said that, they are routinely used by many cars on the pointy end of nationals and track cars.
I have one. I have put my engine through Hell and back. It's still alive. It might die tomorrow. It might die in five years. The death might have nothing to do with the pulley.
I'll take it SAMMM. I will be at LSP this Sunday and next Saturday, if either of those dates/places are good for you. If not, PM me and we can work something out.
Great and thanks! I'll bring it to the NTAXS event on the 19th.
