Driveshaft??

1995 Ford Ranger Pre-Ecoboost 2.3 Liter (Don't be jelly)

Heading down the freeway it makes a roar going down the freeway at about 60-65 mph @ 2,500 RPM. if I mash in the clutch the roaring noise goes away.

So that would mean it isn't in the wheels and tires correct?

Let the clutch out and the noise comes back.

Driveshaft perhaps?

Driveshaft still turns with the clutch in. It *could* be worn u-joints that move out of place under load. More likely it's something in front of (or in) the clutch.

With about a 185,000 miles on it, nothing is out of the realm of possibilities.

With the truck at a standstill, I can run the motor to 2,500 to 3,000 rpm and can't replicate the noise. Clutch in at 65 to 70 mph no noise. Only time seems to be when it is underway with power applied to the driveline. :confused:

The easiest parts to check are the u-joints. I used to have a Triumph TR-4 powered Bugeye with the u-joints installed slightly out of phase. It made similar noises.
