When I would remove the gas cap on my '92 to gas it up, it would always make the sound of releasing pressure when I'd start to open it. My '99 doesn't seem to be doing that. No pressure release when cracking the cap open. Is this normal? Could it be something as simple as a new cap or O-ring on the cap is needed?
All the cars ive owned (Hondas...1 old, 1 used, 2 brand new) would make the noise only sometimes, most of the time it didnt make any noise...I figured it was normal. I dont think my NA has made the noise yet.
Maybee it builds up extra pressure on hot days or something, I dunno.

Run out of gas. Completely. It'll make the noise. Figure out how I know.
If your gas cap is not sealing on your NB Miata, you'll throw an engine code. Maybe the NB has some sort of recirculation for the tank vapors so it doesn't release them into the air?
BTW, Mazda recommends you tighten your cap three clicks to assure a tight seal so you don't throw a code.
