So I know I need to disconnect the battery, but anything else I need to do before I pull the stock steering wheel on my NA Miata??
TIA
Nice write-up on how to remove the steering wheel!

I had another Mazda airbag wheel off and found orange and blue connectors under the hood -- these would probably be easier to get to than the ones under the column, but I don't remember now whether they're that way in ye olde MX5.

I may be to late here, but I beieve I read to disconect the battery and let it sit for 30 min to discharge the capacitor. After this it is a good idea to hit the brake pedal to discharge any remaining current. After that it is pretty straight forward.
Thanks Flyin, it's not to late! The wheel is on my list of to-dos this week. I'm taking a few days off to play Bob Villa.
Well I finally got off my ash and replace the wheel when I got home from work! Pretty easy job, but I didn't enjoy handling the airbag it made me nervous! :shaking2:
