Wet speakers

Today during the hard rain, my speakers got crackly (sp) They do this when I wash the car too, so I figure they are getting wet. Looking at mazdacomp the outside weather stripping is $27 for each side. The weather stripping on the car looks ok. POS mentioned yesterday on the old car he replaced his because the piece that actually touched the window was gone. Looking at mine, it looks like the water could be getting in where there is a gap for the triangle window. I do have aftermarket speakers so they dont have the same bracket.

Does anyone else get water in their doors? Anyone else replace these and get the results they wanted?

No they wouldnt fit. If all miatas get water in the door, then Ill change that. I seem to remember getting water on my door seal since I have had the car.

You can do the Cool-Whip mod. Did that on my '92.

Has anybody tried this Cool Whip trick on a '99+ Miata? My '99 also suffers from wet speakers, I've heard that Mazda refers to this as a "semi-wet condition."

All of the crs I have replaced speakers in have had covers on the back side that were too small to use with the after market speakers. You might want to try going somewhere like Crutchfield and buy a pair of foam baffles for about $8.

I am sure the cool whip trick would work on a 99. Or like Radio-active pointed out baffles from crutchfield would work. I was able to reuse the stock covers. I had to drill some new holes for my speakers but I made them work. Now it just needs to rain to see if I fixed it. Washing the car never really caused the problem.
