Cornerweighting, Alignment, Shock-Dyno, Spring Certification

I'm now available full-time (long story!!) and I'm looking at some ways to make a little money. Among several other services I will likely be offering, I'm thinking about buying a set of scales and all the other equipment I need to do race alignments. I'm trying to gauge interest and I would appreciate it if you guys would answer these questions for me. Feel free to PM me if for some reason you don't want your information public.

Those of you who have gotten your cars cornerweighted in the past, where have you gone, how much do you pay, and how often do you use this service? Would you use this service more if it were cheaper?

Those of you who get race alignments, where do you go, what do you pay, and how often do you use this service? Would you use this service more if it were cheaper?

What about other car-setup needs? Have you guys ever dynoed shocks or had springs checked and certified? Where, how much, and how often do you do this? Would you use this service more if it were cheaper?

I know this is a lot of questions, but I would really appreciate it if you guys could help me out with any information you have on this!! Thanks very much!

I drive all the way to Whitehouse for alignments. It is computerized, he lets me sit in the car, and he does what I ask. He also only charges $50, but he's in Whitehouse. I've paid as much as $100 in the DFW area for less.

I would be very happy if I could find someone in the DFW area that would do as much for me -- especially someone I know ;)

I need someone that has a level surface and can do the car setup as described on the Spec Miata website while my fat a$$ is in the car.

I have no idea how much it would cost, but I'd be happier working with someone I know on it. Keep in mind that I'm about a 1/2 to a full year away from having the suspension kit. The roll cage comes first.

In the past, I've always borrowed a set of scales and done it myself. It's a tedious job, but not one I could see paying someone for.

As for using this service more, I don't think you'll find many of the amateur racers on here jacking with ballast, or changing spring rates or ride heights often enough to get more than the occasional use out of corner weighting.

I typically pay in the $75-100 range, and I usually drive to a shop in Haltom City to have it done. In the past, I've gotten as many as six alignments in one season, but the last season I had it done twice. I intend ot have the car aligned again before the season starts, and probably again before Nationals. Now that I've found settings I like I don't spend as much time experimenting as I used to.

I think $100-150 is a very reasonable rate for a real, high quality custom alignment. Unfortunately, most of the non-race shops - even the ones that will do custom alignments - just have questionable work or machine calibrations. I had intended to let Autoscope do my next alignment at $150 or whatever they charge, but I'd just as soon bring it to you.

I've never had either service performed, although I've considered having shocks dynoed once or twice in the past. However, I probably wouldn't such a service very often at all.
