What have you seen/

I have not kept my usual eye out for great Miata deals recently. I was wondering if the new MX5 is having a bearing on the resale price of the NB & the NA? I would gues more on the NB, but the NA probably gets hit with the trickle down effect.
I have noticed (at least a friend has told me he noticed) that the S2k is becoming somewhat of a rival for the miata as a ragtop to modify. That probably comes about as there has been enough produced and for a length of time to have more available. I know the NA & NB take FI easily enough, I am not sure of the S2k.
Since this BB is forever on the pulse of the automotive world I am bringing this question to the horsesmouth!

From the current inventory counts and supposed discounts on the NC, I don't think the NA & NB owners have much to worry about at this point. It seems to be more of a wine & cheese car (not that there's anything wrong with that) vs. a performance oriented car.

Can't speak for the S2K, but I'll admit I've been looking at them! I actually fit comfortably in them too. :rolleyes:

I have heard of NEW 2005 MazdaSpeed's selling from dealers in the area for close to $15K, (I heard that Eldorado was one dealer selling for less than $16K). That kind of pricing has got to affect vallues.

As for the NC, It's been a while since I drove a stock NC, but the handling reminds me of that. Very balanced. And the power is certainly better that anything stock..

From the cockpit, it feels a bit more isolated from the road than NA or NB. That, along with the "drive by wire" approach does make it seem to have less of a sports car feel. It will need aftermarket suspension mods, but so do they all.

For me, the jury is still out.

Wow - $15k for a new '05 MSM? Sounds like a heckuva deal.

I'll admit I surf the used S2k classifieds from time to time myself. Seems like you could get into a decent early car with average mileage (40-60k) for $16-17k. For around $20k you've got your pick of lower mileage 2.0L ('00-'03) cars.

Still, while I like the S2000, I just don't like it enough to pull the trigger. The electric power steering in the early ones is pretty abysmal - quick ratio, but no feedback. That, plus the fragile OEM clutch and diff and the fact that the engine is rather coarse in VTEC just turn me off a bit.

I tell you what I'd really like - an S2000 or a Miata (or an FD) with a Renesis. While that engine looks very similar to the F20c on paper, driving them couldn't be more different - the Renesis has a much more eager midrange, smoother power delivery, and where the F20c is shouting hoarsely at nine grand, the Renesis just sings. If there was ever a motor just crying out for a small, lightweight sports car body, it's the Renesis.
