Bean ,

You should be the one looking at building one of these cars instead of trying to slim down that porky miata. I think that the sevens come in around 1100 lbs. Which is pretty dang light. Right up your alley.... do you know how to weld? I just bought a HF welder and am going to try and build my own exhaust for the Turd...

Not really.... the LOw COST or locost is a budget seven. There is a book by Ron Chapman and he gives all the specs and you can weld up your own frame.

"How to build a sports car for 250 lbs" - British book.

Then you find a donor car... like a wrecked miata and wammo you are cooking with gas.

If you spent alot of time building one, you wouldnt sell it for cheap either...

The "real" sevens are still available in Europe for like 30K+

I bought a non-running toyota powered locost7 in 1997 for $1000.

About another $1000, and it ran great.

Built the next locost7 for about $6k in 1998-1999. Sold for $9k in 2000.

If you watch the locost boards, you can pick up a running car, ready to track for under $6k fairly regularly.

$10k will get you a very nice example, and $10-15k will get you a locst7 that will easily compete with the 'real' Sevens.

Upwards of $15kish, and you can get some really, REALLY badazz Locosts, and about $12k is where you will find the beater/barn versions of the 'real' Sevens start, too.
