1999 NB trunk lock help

A local Miata owner from your area posted this in the Roadster forums out of Cincinnati. Go figure. ;)

I have the trackfiend lic. brackt. so I'm here ocassionally so I thought I'd pass it along. I sent him your way and I'll link him to this post. Between here and miata.net he should have an answer I hope.

trunk problems

I have a 1999 Miata and the trunk will not open with the key nor the console lever. When I turn the key or pull the lever it makes a releasing sound but it won't open. I have taken it to a body shop and they said they could drill the lock... but I can see the back side of the lock from underneath. If you have any suggestions or know anyone with a similar problem, please contact me!

If it's making the releasing sounds and not opening then he probably has something stuck in the lock mechanism like a jacket, etc...

Time to push down on the trunk while turning the key... then yank up firmly...
